DIFC Data Protection Law 2020

Pursuant to our article dated 20th September, the DIFC enacted their Data Protection Law 2020 (DP Law) in July 2020 which became enforceable on 1st October 2020.

There are a number of DIFC entities that are yet to update their policies and procedures to comply with the latest DP Law. It is imperative that all companies update their DP framework to avoid administrative fines which are high and can reach into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

    The New DP Law Requirements:

    1. Notification to the DIFC of the company’s processing of personal data, regardless of whether the processing takes place in the DIFC.
    2. Adequate policies and procedures to be implemented to identify, mitigate and control the flow of personal information.
